Lisburn’s leading learning disability Charity Stepping Stones NI was on cloud nine last week after receiving the wonderful news that 4 trainees received awards – 3 Bronze medals and a merit of recommendation at the recent “Culinary Ability Awards”. The awards, run as part of the IFEX event in Belfast’s Kings Hall were announced on 24thApril.

Stepping Stones 4 contenders; Kelly Ann, Christian, Kyle and David were supported by not only Stepping Stones staff but also by Chef mentors from some of Northern Irelands best eateries. These included chefs from The Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, The mulberry Tree, Springsteens Lisburn and Café Vic-Ryn.

The trainee chefs had just 40 minutes to create a restaurant standard dish under the watchful eye of their mentors and the judges.

Chief Officer Paula Jennings commented:

“We are all absolutely delighted with this news. Receiving recognition at such prestigious awards is amazing for our trainees, and so well deserved. I would also like to thank our Chef Mentors for all of their support and guidance.”
