U105 Frank Mitchell Show Broadcasts Live from Stepping Stones NI
Trainees, staff, and special guests share their experiences and showcase the support and opportunities available for people with learning disabilities.
We were delighted to welcome the U105 Frank Mitchell Show to our Courtyard Cafe for a special live broadcast, shining a spotlight on the work of Stepping Stones NI and the support we provide to people with learning disabilities.
We were honoured to be joined by the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Amanda Grehan, who attended the broadcast and showed her support for the opportunities and pathways available to those we serve.
During the programme, a number of trainees shared their personal experiences at Stepping Stones NI. Gary and Pauline from Navigation House spoke about their journeys and the skills they are developing, while Jade and Mark from Pink Elephant highlighted their creative work within the social enterprise. Sophie from Courtyard Cafe also shared her story, offering insight into how the right support can help individuals grow in confidence and thrive in a workplace environment.
The broadcast also featured Natalie Cairns, Learning Disability Support Manager, and Ciara Brennan, Director of Marketing and Communications, who discussed the importance of creating inclusive opportunities and supporting each person to reach their full potential.
Meabh McDonnell provided a valuable parent perspective, speaking about the positive impact Stepping Stones NI has had on her family, while CEO Paula Jennings reflected on the organisation’s continued commitment to empowering people with learning disabilities through training, employment, and person-centred support.
During the broadcast, there was a special surprise for Paula as she was recently awarded an MBE. She was presented with cake and flowers by the team, celebrating her dedication and outstanding leadership.
The visit comes as we prepare to host our upcoming Learning Disability Open Evenings, designed for prospective trainees and families who want to learn more about our programmes and explore our social enterprises.
